‘(Jordan) Henderson and (James) Milner know how to transmit motivation,’ he said in an interview with Spanish newspaper El Pais. ‘The team is receptive because it is very professional.

‘But for the team it is incredible that their three stars, Mané, Salah and Firmino, are inexhaustible. They are every day an hour before in the gym. They always want more!’

The Brazilian also reserved praise for Liverpool’s two attacking full backs Alexander Trent-Arnold and Andy Robertson for their heroics on the flanks this season, saying he tries to offer them cover to allow them to bomb forward and help the team.

‘With the quality they have, they can (push up) as much as they want because I will be protecting (them). They always help us a lot in games. Both in the construction of the plays and with assists and goals.

‘Their (crosses) have great precision and they spend 90 minutes coming and going. My role is to cover them. When we attack on the left, I take care of Robertson’s back; and when the ball is on the right I take care of Alexander-Arnold.

‘If I don’t have time, then the one that covers is a central one. The three left behind have to make these decisions according to how we see the game.’
