Eddie Hearn insists that Anthony Joshua WILL fight Tyson Fury this year

‘The undisputed fight must happen in 2020’: Eddie Hearn insists that Anthony Joshua WILL fight Tyson Fury this year, as he suggests contract to agree bout could be signed BEFORE each man makes his next title defence

Eddie Hearn has made bold statements regarding the all-British super fight every boxing fans wants to see, and is pushing for a pre-contract agreement to see Anthony Joshua fight Tyson Fury this year.

Hearn’s comments arrive on the same day as the double confirmation of Joshua’s June fight with mandatory challenger Kubrat Pulev, along with Deontay Wilder‘s trilogy clash with Fury.

Now, with Joshua and Fury both heading into their fights as favourites to retain the titles, Hearn sees no reason why a contract can not be drawn up right now and signed off, pending victorious outcomes.

‘There’s no reason not to get that contracted now, subject to both guys winning in the summer,’ Hearn told Sky Sports.

‘We had numerous conversations with Bob Arum at Top Rank over making Joshua vs Fury.

‘But we know that once Wilder exercised that rematch clause, that fight would be made. We understand Wilder wants to win his belt back.’

Joshua’s next opponent Pulev is promoted by Arum, as is Fury, meaning Hearn has had ample communication. Though Wilder now remains an obstacle, Hearn is hopeful of pressing on for a year-ending blockbuster in December.

Hearn added: ‘The proudness and ego of Wilder meant it was very unlikely. He’s not stepping aside, he wants this rematch with Fury.

Once the prospect of getting Joshua and his rival Fury in a ring is a possibility, Hearn is determined to ensure it is hosted on home soil.

He also hinted the clash would be at least a double header, if not a trilogy.

‘Joshua and Fury are certainly going to be boxing twice [or a] trilogy,’ Hearn added.

‘That’s part of the deal that we are looking to do ASAP – a two-fight agreement with Fury and Arum at the end of this year then summer 2021.

‘We must try and do that fight in the UK,’ he added. ‘Ask AJ and Fury where they would like it, and they would say the UK.

We know there will be huge offers from around the world. Our priority is to try and make this fight in the UK.’
