Spanish side Athletic Bilbao are reportedly looking into the possibility of signing Gonzalo Higuain in summer, once his current deal with Juventus expires.

The La Liga side are on the lookout for firepower and a move to bring Higuain back to the top flight is being considered.

Given the club’s policy of only recruiting players from the Basque region, Bilbao have found a loophole which means a deal is possible, according to Marca.

Higuain is well known for playing for the Argentina national side, though has dual Argentine and French nationality because he was born in Brest where his father, Jorge, who made a career in San Lorenzo, Boca and River, featured in European football playing at Stade Brestois.

The player’s grandfather however is of Basque-French origin, which would in theory pave the way for Higuain to return to La Liga with Bilbao.

The 32-year-old has also been linked with potential moves to Major League Soccer, along with a lucrative switch to the Chinese Super League.
