West Ham ‘watching Brentford striker Ollie Watkins’ ahead of possible summer bid if the Bees fail in their Premier League promotion challenge

  • Watkins has scored 22 goals to power Brentford’s promotion challenge
  • Striker was the subject of interest from West Ham during January window
  • Now the Hammers will reportedly renew their interest if Bees don’t go up

West Ham ‘are watching Brentford hotshot Ollie Watkins with a view to a summer move for the striker.’

Watkins, 24, is enjoying an exceptional season as the Bees mount a bid for Premier League promotion, with 22 goals in 35 Championship matches.

The Hammers considered making a move for him during the January transfer window but Brentford were unwilling to countenance selling him.

But, according to The Sun, they will return with a firmer offer in the summer if Brentford fail to win promotion to the top-flight.

However, the two London clubs may yet swap leagues, with West Ham involved in a relegation dogfight, with only goal difference keeping them out of the bottom three.

Manager David Moyes is still trying to revamp his squad in the meantime, with Jarrod Bowen a £20million arrival from Hull City during January.

West Ham broke their club record to sign forward Sebastian Haller from Eintracht Frankfurt for £45m last summer but the Frenchman has managed just seven goals.
