Wilder in July, Joshua in November, Whyte in February: Fury’s promoter lays out fight plan

Tyson Fury‘s US promoter Bob Arum has said the boxer could face Deontay Wilder in July, Anthony Joshua in November and Dillian Whyte in February.

The Gypsy King bulldozed the Bronze Bomber in their second clash in Las Vegas last month as the American’s corner threw in the towel in the 7th round.

Fury will look to do the same again in mid-July after Wilder seized the chance of a trilogy fight.

The 31-year-old will have two fights left on his contract after battling Wilder and he wants to take on fellow Brits Joshua and Whyte.

Arum said he agreed with WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman that Fury is clear to box who he wants over the next year.

He added to World Boxing News: ‘Fury will fight Wilder in July. He could then possibly fight the Anthony Joshua versus Kubrat Pulev winner in November. Then Dillian Whyte in February. Why not?’

Joshua, 30, holds the WBA, IBF and WBO belts. Whyte, 31, is the WBC mandatory contender but is not due to fight for it until February.

AJ previously promised to beat Kubrat Pulev in the 11th round of their heavyweight clash in June ahead of any showdown with Fury.

A defeat against Wladimir Klitschko in 2014 is the only loss on Pulev’s record, but Joshua is confident of beating the 38-year-old.

Joshua told William Hill: ‘He’s been in the game for a while, he went to the top level and then he got defeated.

‘So he knows his way around the ring. He’s had his chance at the top level and now he’s coming back again, so he’s probably going to try and get it right.

‘I’ll be expecting a more polished, smarter Pulev, and he can bang a bit as well. He’s had a few knockouts on his record as well, he can bang and he can box so he’s a boxer-puncher.

‘It’s kind of like what my style is as well so it will be a good match up for sure. We’re going to box, people are going to see some skills, and they’re probably going to see a knockout as well because you’ve got two boxer-punchers.’

When asked to give a prediction on the fight, the 30-year-old said: ‘Round 11.’

The fight between Joshua and Pulev on June 20 means any potential clash with Fury would come after the summer.

Meanwhile Whyte will put his WBC mandatory position on the line with a fight against Alexander Povetkin on May 2.

Whyte will go toe-to-toe with Povetkin at the Manchester Arena in two months’ time.

Whyte is the current WBC interim world champion after beating Oscar Rivas in July last year.

The 31-year-old Brit defended that title with a win over Maruisz Wach in Saudi Arabia in December.

The Brit’s record stands at 27-1, 18 KOs whereas 40-year-old Russian Povetkin’s is 35-2-1, 24 KOs.

‘This is a great fight, Povetkin is an Olympic gold medallist, has loads of experience, he’s a former World Champion and he’s only lost to Joshua and Klitschko,’ said Whyte.

‘He is still very dangerous, he gave AJ a lot of problems and then beat Hughie Fury. I am not overlooking him at all, he will come in shape, he’s tough and very well-schooled.

‘You only have to look at his resume to see that he’s always been considered as one of the most fearsome punchers in the heavyweight division with big KO wins over [Marco] Huck, [Manuel] Charr, [Carlos] Takam, Wach and [David] Price.

‘He showed in Saudi Arabia that he still has a lot left in the tank and he is still very dangerous. I’ve got respect for him but I’m on to maximum violence, straight animal instinct.

‘I want to be heavyweight champion of the world so anywhere in the world is my lion’s den. If you aspire to be world champion, you should be able to fight anywhere. Manchester is a great city with great fight fans and I’m looking forward to going back there.’

‘I am pleased to fight Whyte, it has long been discussed but didn’t happen for whatever reason,’ said Povetkin.

‘Dillian is a good strong boxer and it will make for an interesting fight. I am not about big announcements, I am about winning in the ring, and on May 2nd people will see a spectacular fight.’
