Tyson Fury‘s trainer Andy Lee has revealed SugarHill Steward’s final instructions moments before Deontay Wilder‘s corner conceded defeat in Las Vegas.

Wilder’s team halted the bout in the seventh round after throwing in the towel, leaving Fury crowned WBC heavyweight champion after a rigorous training regime.

And in the wake of Fury’s triumph, Lee admitted that Steward had just one criticism for Fury during the fight – and outlined the combination that allowed Fury to dethrone his opponent.

‘Before round seven SugarHill said to him, “You know what to do, left jab, left jab, feint, feint, step back, one two”. And he went out and did it. It was perfect,’ Lee told iFL TV.

‘He said what he had to say very directly. The only criticism he had for Tyson at the start was his step back was too slow.

‘He needed to take a quicker step back and back in to him. He did that after the first round, Tyson made that adjustment.

‘Once we got into the six round he said, “Go and get him out of there, what are you waiting around [for]?” Similar to what Emanuel (Steward) would say, but not as animated.’

During his preparations for the highly-anticipated rematch with Wilder, Fury replaced long-time friend and trainer Ben Davison for Steward in a surprise move.

The change came shortly after Fury’s gruelling encounter with Otto Wallin, in which the 31-year-old battled to a points decision and sustained a gruesome cut above his right eye.

Fury’s father, John, was later filmed for a documentary chastising his son’s team – and the introduction of Steward paid dividends for the British star, who returned to the pinnacle of the sport after his fairy tale Sin City victory.

Wilder was left sprawled on the canvas twice during the bout, despite many punters predicting Fury would be unable to survive 12 rounds against the all-conquering American puncher.

Fury plans to retire from the ring after two more fights, and also hopes for a showdown with Anthony Joshua in a unification bout before the end of the year.
