Matej Vydra has won the Premier League‘s Goal of the Month award for February for his stunning effort Burnley‘s 2-1 win over Southampton at St Mary’s.

The 27-year-old’s goal helped wrap up three points on the road for the Clarets during their seven-game unbeaten run.

The match-winning goal came on the hour-mark after he collected a long pass from Jeff Hendrick with his chest just outside the Saints area.

Having lost his marker, Vydra was then faced with another Southampton defender who he skipped away from with ease before rifling home past Alex McCarthy. 

‘I’m delighted and honoured to have won this,’ said the Czech Republic international.

‘It was a special goal for me after waiting so long and, more importantly, a big goal for the team.

‘I’ll remember it for a long time and hopefully there will be many more to come in a Burnley shirt.’

The stunning effort beat seven other nominees for the award, seeing off Manchester United duo Anthony Martial and Mason Greenwood, while Steven Bergwijn’s debut goal for Tottenham against Manchester City was also in the running.

It caps off a brilliant run for Burnley who also saw Sean Dyche pick up February’s Manager of the Month award having guided the club on a four-match unbeaten run and seven in all competitions.
