Padraig Harrington has dismissed reports that this year’s Ryder Cup will be postponed until 2021 due to the ongoing coronvirus spread.

The three-time Major champion is set to captain Team Europe at the biennial clash in September, where he will look to retain the Ryder Cup following their emphatic victory over the Americans in 2018.

However, the world of sport has grinded to a halt following the growing spread of COVID-19, which left officials with no choice but to cancel The Masters last week.

As a result, The Telegraph reported that Ryder Cup would likely follow a similar fate and would be postponed until next year.

When asked about a postponement, Harrington dismissed the claims before insisting there has been ‘no change’ to plans to host the gold showpiece.

Harrington told Irish radio station Today FM: ‘September is a long way off so there’s no change to the situation at all at this stage.
