Donny van de Beek’s agent has revealed the midfielder’s dream summer move to Real Madrid could be off as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

A £47m deal between Ajax and Madrid has reportedly been agreed but clubs are now trying to balance the books after football was suspended across the globe.

A lack of matchday revenue and income from prize money means teams may have to sell before they buy and reevaluate their summer transfer plans.

Despite their considerable financial power, Madrid may also see their transfer budget slashed and Van de Beek’s agent has admitted he’s concerned the move could be off.

‘What’s going to happen to Donny? No one knows at this time,’ he said to Mundo Deportivo. ‘The interest of various clubs, which is known, has been there for a long time.

‘We will see what will come out in the coming weeks. I don’t dare say anything about it, also because some things are confidential, although the coronavirus will have changed the situation of some clubs and we have to look closely at that.’

Though a move to Madrid is thought to be Van de Beek’s preference, interest from a host of other European clubs could see him move elsewhere.

When pressed where he will eventually end up playing his football, the Dutchman’s agent said the decision lies entirely with the 22-year-old.

‘It is important for Donny to make a decision based on his own feelings and to think about where he can fit in better and where he will be more successful.’

Van de Beek was linked with a host of clubs last summer following the departures of Matthijs de Ligt to Juventus and Frenkie de Jong to Barcelona but decided to stay at Ajax.

The midfielder has scored 10 goals in 37 games this season to help fire Ajax to the top of the Eredivisie on goal difference prior to the season being postponed.
