Paul Pogba has revealed he was an Arsenal fan who idolised Thierry Henry before switching his allegiance to Manchester United.

The midfielder started to follow the Gunners because of their strong contingent of French players, including striker Henry.

But Pogba later switched from supporting Arsenal to Manchester United because his older brother followed the Red Devils.

Pogba told United’s official podcast: ‘I will be honest. So, at the start, I was an Arsenal fan – obviously because of all the French players, you know.

‘Me and my brother were but my other brother was a Manchester United fan.

‘I couldn’t say anything so I used to love Henry and, because of him, I was an Arsenal fan. Then I changed and went on to choose with my other brother. No Arsenal, I went with the other one, the United fan!’

Henry, who had left Arsenal for Barcelona by the time Pogba arrived in England, was asked to name his football idols growing up.

He replied: ‘I had Ronaldinho, Ronaldo, [Zinedine] Zidane, Thierry Henry, Djibril Cisse, Kaka.’  

Pogba continues to be linked with Juventus and Real Madrid as he approaches the final year of his contract, 

United’s record £89million signing has not played since Boxing Day, having undergone surgery to address an ankle problem that has wrecked his season.

Pogba, who had played just eight times this term, is targeting a return to action if and when the season resumes after the suspension of games due to the coronavirus.
