REVEALED: Deontay Wilder suffered bicep injury during his knockout defeat against Tyson Fury… and says he doesn’t see Brit ‘as a real champion’

Deontay Wilder has revealed he suffered a bicep injury during his knockout defeat against Tyson Fury in February.

The American was battered from pillar to post as he surrendered his WBC world heavyweight title in Las Vegas after his cornerman Mark Breland threw in the towel in the seventh round.

Wilder previously blamed the defeat – the first of his professional career – on the weight of his extravagant ring-entrance costume, but has now said that he sustained an injury during the fight and has since had surgery on the problem.

Speaking on PBC’s podcast, Wilder said: ‘Recovery is going well. I’m in therapy, I ended up injuring it during my last fight.

‘I’ve been there before, but everything is going great with it. I’m just focusing on recovery and getting back to full health. I’m looking forward to once all this coronavirus stuff is over to getting back to camp and getting ready.’
