Barcelona, Real Madrid and other LaLiga sides told they can return to training IMMEDIATELY amid the coronavirus crisis after giving money to relief fund
La Liga clubs have been told they will be able to return to training provided they comply with the protocols that have been laid out by the Spanish government.
The decision comes after a meeting took place on Sunday between the league, Spain’s National Sports Council (CSD) and the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF).
Spain‘s top flight has been suspended since March as the country looks to battle the spread of the coronavirus pandemic. At the time of writing, 20,852 people have died from the virus in the country.
In the past week, the Spanish government has sought to ease some of the lockdown restrictions, and, with LaLiga president Javier Tebas suggesting the competition could return as soon as next month, fans are hopeful that football may be on the horizon.
The CSD statement said that the three parties involved in Sunday’s meeting had ‘agreed to return to professional football training.’
However, the return will be ‘subject to the evolution of the COVID-19 pandemic and to the decisions taken by the Ministry of Health’ and will only occur ‘as long as sanitary circumstances allow it and under strict health protocols’.
The statement also promised to dedicate part of the resources generated by football’s audiovisual rights to aid amateur, Olympic and Paralympic sports, while it also announced a ‘contingency fund’ of £8.72m to help the ‘most vulnerable’ athletes amid the shutdown due to coronavirus.
