Matty Longstaff ‘keen to sort out new deal at Newcastle’ if Saudi takeover of the club is completed… with highly-rated Magpies midfielder out of contract in the summer

  • Newcastle owner Mike Ashley is on the verge of selling the club for £300m
  • Matty Longstaff’s current contract at the club is due to expire in the summer
  • But the 20-year-old could sign a new deal when the takeover is complete
  • Meanwhile, Steve Bruce is set to be handed a £200m war-chest on new players

Newcastle midfielder Matty Longstaff is reportedly ready to sign a new contract at the club, provided the takeover of the club is completed in due course.

The 20-year-old, who burst onto the scene when he scored the match-winner against Manchester United in October on his Premier League debut, is out-of-contract on June 30.

Reportedly on £850 a week, talks over a new deal have stagnated in recent months but he is willing to sign a extension should Mike Ashley’s £300m sale of the club go through in the coming weeks, according to The Sun

The report details that Longstaff wants to agree a new contract with the new owners of the club, with a consortium headed by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund on the verge of taking over at St James’ Park.

Under Ashley, no deal seemed likely and both Inter Milan and Marseille were reportedly interested in signing the youngster on a free transfer in the summer.

But Longstaff, whose older brother Sean also plays for the Magpies, could sign improved terms in the coming weeks.

The 20-year-old has come through the youth system at Newcastle alongside his brother, with the pair at times forming a partnership in midfield this season.

Meanwhile, Magpies manager Steve Bruce is reportedly set to be handed £200m to spend on new players from the prospective new owners.

Detailed financial plans have been submitted to the Premier League which the expected new chiefs hope to get approval for, which reportedly includes the huge initial £200m figure that will be injected into the club to improve the squad and revamping the club facilities
