‘It was great and I saw lots of friends [also in attendance: Renée Zellweger, Jennifer Aniston, Leonardo DiCaprio and plural Kardashians]. A lot of them said, “Wow, I can’t believe it’s 2am and you’re still here!” But, I do that once every two years!’

Penelope married fellow actor Javier Bardem, 51, in 2010 and the couple are parents to Leo, nine, and Luna, six.

With the responsibilities of parenthood along with a busy film career, Penelope admitted she often has to remind herself to take time out.

She said: ‘I’m not so good at it because I’m a very nurturing person by nature, I have to keep reminding myself to also create time for myself. It’s not something that comes to me naturally, I tend to do the opposite, but I’m working on it!’

Asked what makes her feel good, Penelope said it’s not about getting her hair or makeup done but rather adhering to a ‘clean’ and healthy diet.

Penelope also had her say on social media, likening it to a ‘jungle’, adding it can be difficult for teenagers or young people who come across harmful content.

The actress said she thinks social media sites should be regulated to protect kids and teenagers.

It comes after Penelope claimed she doesn’t want to act opposite her husband ‘that often’.

The star told Marie Claire: ‘Obviously we can’t choose parts just for logistical reasons, like “Oh let’s work together because it’s easier”. No.

‘In fact, it’s not something we want to do that often, partly out of desire to protect what we have.’

The star – who has acted opposite her husband in films such as Loving Pablo and Vicky Cristina Barcelona went on to tell the publication: ‘On the one hand, it’s easier because you know what person, he knows you, and the way you work is very similar.

‘On the other hand, the idea of it happening every year is very scary. I think it’s better for it to just be once in a while, even though they’ve been very good experiences.’

Penelope also admitted she was ‘surprised’ by parenthood, and becoming a mother has spurred an ‘animal-like revolution inside of her’.

‘It’s the thing that make me the happiest,’ she said of being a mum, but added: ‘There are a lot of things that have surprised me about it. It’s like a revolution inside you – a very animal-like one.’

‘The whole world looks different. You’ll never think of yourself first again, and I think that’s a very good thing. It happens in a second.’
