Tony Jones threatens to ‘walk off set’ if his rejected Bec Judd kiss is EVER shown again

‘I do NOT want to see it again’: Furious Tony Jones threatens to ‘walk off set’ if Channel Nine re-runs footage of his awkward attempt to kiss Rebecca Judd

Channel Nine sports reporter Tony Jones is still haunted by the time he tried to kiss Rebecca Judd on live TV in 2016.

Speaking to 3AW‘s Neil Mitchell on Monday about the cringeworthy moment, Tony vowed to ‘walk off set’ if the network ever tried to broadcast the footage again.

The 58-year-old journalist has been mocked for years over the awkward incident on various Nine programs, including The Footy Show, and was even roasted by Hamish and Andy at the 2017 Logie Awards.

Tony said on Monday: ‘Neil, can I put this on the public record, your show is the most listened-to radio show in Melbourne right, but I will say, if I see that played one more time at Channel Nine I will walk off the set. I do not want to see that kiss again.’

He discussed the infamous moment after a listener had called in and mentioned it.

Neil then challenged Nine News presenter Peter Hitchener to air the clip one more time to see if Tony would actually ‘walk off set’ as promised.

‘Please find a reason to play it tonight and see if he walks off,’ he said.

The incident with Rebecca happened on Nine News Melbourne in August 2016, as Tony attempted to give her a peck on the cheek before she went on maternity leave.

‘Good luck, Bec!’ he said, before leaning in. At that moment, the WAG instinctively pulled away and yelped, before bursting into fits of giggles.

Realising he had just been rejected on camera, Tony crossed his arms and grumbled, ‘OK, good, this is going well,’ as his face turned red.

In March, Tony revealed the truth behind the toe-curling moment, saying he was supposed to present her with flowers, but somebody had forgot to buy them.

In a moment of panic, he decided to just kiss her on the cheek instead, but the gesture didn’t go down well.

Rebecca, 37, who is married to retired footy star Chris Judd, took the faux pas in good humour and later agreed to give Tony a friendly kiss at the 2018 Brownlow.
