Mariah Carey belts out There’s Got to Be a Way as she demands justice for George Floyd… 30 years after 1990 release

Mariah Carey is one of the many celebrities demanding justice for George Floyd and all the other victims of racism.

The 50-year-old took to social media on Saturday morning to perform an acapella rendition of her hit, There’s Got to Be a Way, released in 1990.

The singer said she was still unsure how 30 years later there were still no answers to why the world still experiences such bigotry.

Demanding justice: Mariah Carey sung an acapella rendition of her 1990 hit, There’s Got to Be a Way, on Saturday morning, in a response to the tragic death of George Floyd

‘I wrote this song for my first album. Still looking for answers today. We have to make a change. We can’t be silent. #BlackLivesMatter,’ she began.

‘Text ‘FLOYD’ to 55156 to demand #JusticeForFloyd.’

She went on to sing: ‘I don’t understand how there can be regulated bigotry. There’s got to be a way to connect this world today.’

Mariah dressed casually in a black scooped neck T-shirt for the dark lit photo.

She slicked back her brunette tresses into a tight ponytail and kept her makeup natural with a glowing complexion.

The original video saw the then 20-year-old sing and dance with people of different races, ages and genders to promote equality for all.

At the time of release, the mom-of-two was called out by music critics for being too political in the song.

Mariah herself identifies as half black, and it’s something she’s never shied away from talking about.

Her mother, Patricia, was an Irish opera singer and vocal coach, while her father, Alfred, was an African-American aeronautical engineer.

The We Belong Together opened up about her upbringing and mixed heritage in a 2009 interview with The Guardian.

‘White people have a difficult time with [mixed race],’ she began.

‘It’s like, my mother’s white – she’s so Irish, she loves Ireland, she’s like, “yay, Ireland!” Waving the flag and singing When Irish Eyes Are Smiling. And that’s great. I appreciate that and respect it.’

Growing up: Mariah identifies as both black and white, having an Irish mother and African-American father. She previously revealed people would be 'disgusted' when she was seen with her father as she had blonde hair

She continued: ‘But there’s a whole other side of me that makes me who I am and makes people uncomfortable.’

‘My father identified as a black man. No one asked him because he was clearly black. But people always ask me. If we were together, people would look at us in a really strange way. It sucked. As a little girl I had blond hair and they’d look at me, look at him, and be disgusted.’
