How DO they stay looking so fresh?

Women around the country have spent the last 11 weeks without their regular beauty treatments or trips to the salon – and celebrities are no different.

But while many might find themselves feeling a little less polished than usual, stars seem to be as radiant as ever despite the lockdown.

Speaking to FEMAIL, three British skin and beauty experts have broken down five celebrity routines to explain exactly how they stay looking so fresh, even without professional treatments.

While some of them – like Victoria Beckham and Trinny Woodall – throw money at the issue to buy expensive products and skincare gadgets, others, like Fearne Cotton, take a ‘less is more’ approach.

Here, FEMAIL offers insight into their beauty secrets in case you’re in need of some inspiration for skincare TLC.

FEARNE COTTON, 38

Swears by: Minimal maintenance

Unlike some high maintenance celebrities, radio DJ and podcast host Fearne Cotton takes a low key approach to skincare. The presenter, pictured in April, relies on micellar water or ‘whatever cleanser she has at home’ to remove her make-up and adds a touch of moisturiser

Unlike some high maintenance celebrities, radio DJ and podcast host Fearne Cotton takes a low key approach to skincare – but still manages to look fresh-faced and bright-eyed in her lockdown Instagram snaps.

Speaking earlier this year, Fearne said there are a ‘million things she would rather do than have a facial or pamper herself’ and said her only indulgence is maybe doing a ‘quick face mask’ every two weeks.

Otherwise she relies on micellar water or ‘whatever cleanser she has at home’ to remove her make-up and adds a touch of moisturiser.

Speaking to FEMAIL about Fearne’s routine, : Lucy Xu, Skin Specialist and Founder of London Premier Laser and Skin Clinics (www.londonpremierlaser.co.uk) said: ‘Fearne is very lucky to have a naturally radiant and glowing complexion, especially if she does have a very minimal and simple skincare regime.

‘Her skin is clear, and she does not suffer from too much pigmentation or congestion. Most people who have a very minimal skincare regime usually don’t suffer with too many skin issues such as acne or breakouts so in Fearne’s case her regime has probably worked for her all her life and she may not feel like she has to add in other elements to keep her complexion healthy and fresh.

‘Micellar water is an effective tool for both taking off makeup and cleansing the skin, although I would recommend double cleansing and following up with a toner. The negatives may be that long term she is not safeguarding her skin by adding in further product’s such as serums, oils and hydrating creams which will all help to prevent and reverse any signs of ageing.’

Laura Franklin Hollier, founder of Persephone Beauty, organic skincare shopping site www.persephone-beauty.com added the routine would work well for women who are time strapped or on a budget.

She said: ‘Fearne’s pared back approach lends itself well to using multi-purpose products, which can often be one product used in the place of five or six steps. The key is to look for quality rather than quantity, such a facial oil which can be used on skin, hair and body – the concentrated ingredients mean that it will last far longer than a water-rich cream, too.’

TRINNY WOODALL, 56

Swears by: Pricey gadgets

Stylist and presenter Trinny Woodall is refreshingly honest about her skincare routine on social media and is happy to list every product that goes into making her look camera ready.

During lockdown, Trinny has highlighted several tools and gadgets that she claims help her skin look its best at home.

Speaking to FEMAIL, dermatology and aesthetic RGN Emma Coleman, who has her own skincare range www.emmacolemanskin.com, said of Trinny’s approach to skincare: ‘Gadgets are a great way of supporting normal skincare and ensuring the circulation of the skin and collagen production are optimized, although they can be a pricey option on top of buying creams, serums etc.

‘This routine is great for busy women with high powered jobs who don’t have time for salon visits and want to do facials at home, and have the budget for it.’

Lucy added: ‘Trinny’s skin is simply fantastic and she always looks so youthful, however this is most likely because she is clued up with her skincare and she seems to love to try new and quirky skin gadgets along with professional skin treatments.

‘Her skin is super plump and hydrated which probably means she invests a lot into hard working products with hard hitting ingredients. If she is partial to a skin gadget or a professional facial, this is most likely also why she looks fresh and young.’

ROCHELLE HUMES, 31

Swears by: Gentle hydration

As a busy mother-of-two pregnant with her third child, you might think Rochelle Humes would look a little tired or run-down during quarantine. But the popstar turned TV presenter looks as radiant as ever in recent Instagram snaps.

Rochelle revealed her daughters Alaia-Mai, seven, and Valentina, three, had put together an at-home spa complete with ‘pregnancy massage’ and ‘facial’ as a sweet gesture for their mother.

While the treatments are sure to have given Rochelle a boost, the real secret to her glowing complexion is a focus on hydrating products.

Speaking previously, Rochelle revealed she relies on easy products like Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cream and Burt’s Bees Baby Bee Multipurpose Ointment to give her skin a dewy look.

She recently turned her love of gentle hydrating products into a business and launched My Little Coco, a bath, body and hair range suitable for children.

Commenting on the routine, Emma said: ‘Rochelle does have flawless skin but sometimes pregnancy hormones can change the balance of our skin’s microbiome, leading to dehydrated skin, so her approach is spot on.

‘Women in pregnancy with a mid-range budget would be suited to her routine, especially if they are experiencing dry or flaky skin.’

Victoria Beckham, who has been isolating at her £6million second home in the Cotswolds, shared her secrets to a ‘healthy natural glow’ in an Instagram video last month.

The Spice Girl turned designer, 46, revealed she uses two must-have products from her own Victoria Beckham Beauty range to keep her skin looking as dewy as ever.

The mother-of-four revealed she uses the Victoria Beckham Beauty Cell Rejuvenating Priming Moisturiser (twice a day) and Power Serum.

The two products cost £300 (on sale from £320) in a set or can be bought individually for £92 (Cell Rejuvenating Priming Moisturiser) and £180 (Cell Rejuvenating Power Serum).

Emma said: ‘She is prone to acne scarring, so has chosen high end skincare which is super nourishing and sits well under makeup to suit this.

‘Her routine would suit a lady with oily or combination skin, prone to scarring and in the 40+ age bracket.’

Lucy added: ‘You can tell that Victoria looks after her skin and invests in her skincare regime. She has a youthful and glowing complexion and one that can only be replicated by using hard working products and most likely the odd professional facial.

‘It is evident she takes good care with her skin and will most likely use products with high doses of retinol and vitamin c as well as other anti-ageing and anti-oxidant ingredients.’
