Simone Holtznagel claims friends tried to prevent late Charlotte Dawson’s suicide by deleting apps

Simone Holtznagel reflects on late model Charlotte Dawson’s suicide and claims the TV host reinstalled social media apps after friends desperately tried to save her by deleting them

Simone Holtznagel has reflected on losing one of her ‘best friends’ to suicide – Australia’s Next Top Model mentor Charlotte Dawson.

Charlotte committed suicide six years ago in 2014, aged 47, after suffering relentless online bullying.

Speaking to The Daily Telegraph on Sunday, Simone claimed friends deleted all social media off Charlotte’s phone to protect her from trolls when she was experiencing a low, but unfortunately the late model reinstalled them.

Simone forged a close bond with the TV host turned anti-bullying advocate after being mentored by Charlotte on the 2011 series of Australia’s Next Top Model.

‘When Charlotte’s book came out [2012] and she had people tweeting #diecharlotte, a friend went to her apartment and found her in bed unconscious, and another friend took Charlotte’s phone and deleted Twitter and Instagram and all of that.’

Simone continued: ‘…everything froze because she couldn’t access it. But she downloaded them again.’

It was less than two years later that Charlotte took her own life after receiving abuse from vicious trolls on Twitter.

When appearing on I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! in 2014, Simone broke down as she revealed to her camp mates that she had to identify Charlotte’s body following her passing.

In 2019, Simone told The Daily Telegraph that she had already spread Charlotte’s ashes in Bali, New Zealand and Bondi, and intended to continue doing so in ‘all the places fabulous’ for her friend.

Famed for TV shows such as Australia’s Next Top Model, the New Zealand-born star, who was just 47, had a history of depression.

Charlotte was found dead in her Sydney Woolloomooloo home on February 22, 2014. Her death was later ruled a suicide.
