Paddy McGuinness’ £250K Lamborghini ‘FAILED its MOT just 47 days’ before he cheated death in Top Gear crash
The £250,000 Lamborghini that Paddy McGuinness crashed while filming Top Gear allegedly failed its MOT just 47 days before.
Paddy, 46, lost control of the car, which can travel at speeds of up to 200mph, while zooming down a country road in the Yorkshire Dales.
The owner of the Lamborghini Diablo was also allegedly warned about how ‘worn’ one of its tyres was.

According to The Daily Star, the red supercar failed its MOT on May 1 this year and because its windscreen wipers didn’t work properly and it had issues with drive shaft joints.
The BBC is still investigating the crash, which happened while the car was being driven slower than 60mph on a stretch of road that is famed for accidents while it was pouring with rain.
Although the issues which saw the car fail its MOT were corrected and the car subsequently passed the test three days later, the DVLA says flagged tyre issues should be closely monitored.

The tyre warning allegedly read: ‘Nearside rear tyre worn close to legal limit/worn on edge’.
Replacement tyres allegedly hadn’t been fitted at the time of the crash.
A Top Gear spokesman told the Daily Star the car had been ‘extensively examined’ on the day of filming.

He added: ‘The cause has not yet been fully determined but the incident will be shown in the upcoming series.’
‘Tyres are one of the most frequently checked aspects of the cars when we film and a replacement set were on standby should the mechanic had deemed a change necessary.’
According to the publication the TV star Paddy told on Instagram how the crash happened.

He said: ‘It’s been a mad old day on Top Gear today, you might have seen I’ve had a bit of a shunt. I finally got to drive a Lamborghini Diablo but it turns out 30-year-old supercars don’t like torrential rain – who’d have thought it.
‘I’m totally fine. If you’ve ever owned a Diablo or you’ve driven one, you’ll know just as well as me that ‘oh my god’ she can be a cruel mistress – oh she can be a cruel mistress that one. That V12 lures you in and then rawr, it bites you like that – but I’m totally fine and fingers crossed we will get the car up and running again because it’s an absolute beauty. I’m going to have a cuppa tea, Paracetamol and a little cry.’
The crash came after presenter Richard Hammond was almost killed in a Top Gear accident in 2006.
He was in a coma for two weeks after losing control of a dragster while filming at Elvington Airfield, near York.

Hammond was completing a seventh and final run in the car when the front-right tyre blew-out and the dragster veered off the runway, rolled over, and Hammond was left with a traumatic head injury and was in a coma for two weeks. In the year following the crash the TV presenter returned to the show and spoke about the crash on the Jonathan Ross Show, but couldn’t remember any of it because of his injuries.

Freddie Flintoff crashes a jet trike – 2019
In September, Freddie revealed he suffered a nasty escape after a high speed crash in a jet trike during filming. The cricket star, 41, insisted he was ‘absolutely fine’ after his jet trike careered off the road during a race at the Elvington Airfield near York. Freddie reportedly careered his high speed trike off the road as he filmed the high-speed race. Crew members rushed to Freddie – who was wearing a full motorcycling suit and helmet for the scenes – but he emerged with barely a scratch.

Paddy McGuinness’ back axel comes off his Pontiac Firebird – 2020
In the latest series of Top Gear, Paddy embarked on the ‘original’ American Road Trip with Freddie and Chris Harris. He arrived in their start point of Peru with a Pontiac Firebird which didn’t have a roof amongst several other problems. When the trio decided to test out their cars on a straight 1/4 mile stretch of road Paddy’s car only got a few yards before the back end of the axel came apart entirely and he was forced to abandon the car.

Jeremy Clarkson flips over his Reliant Robin – 2010
In a now famous segment from Top Gear, former presenter Jeremy flipped over a Reliant Robin multiple times. The motorcar journalist was flipping it over to prove that the three-wheeled car could easily tip over. In his Sunday Times driving column Jeremy revealed that he had actually asked crew to tinker with the car ‘so that the poor little thing rolled over every time I turned the steering wheel’.
