Paul O’Grady has revealed that he’s stopped drinking as the ‘hangovers aren’t worth it’.

The TV star, 65, admitted that he has ‘gone off booze’ and he gets as ‘ill as a dog’ after enjoying alcoholic beverages.

Paul also discussed his past health scares, saying that he is a ‘timebomb’ and that he once toyed with the idea of travelling to Dignitas in the future, which provides assisted suicide in Switzerland, although it is not something he would do now.

Talking to The Sun, the star, who has suffered kidney failure, coronavirus and three heart attacks, said: ‘I’ve just sort of gone off booze. I didn’t even have a drink on my birthday last month.

‘It’s not like the old days when I could neck ten pints of cider — now I’d be ill as a dog. The hangovers aren’t worth it.’

Paul, who suffered heart attacks in 2002, 2006 and 2014, went on to talk about his past health scares and Dignitas.

The Swiss non-profit organisation provides assisted suicide for those suffering from terminal illness in addition to severe physical and mental illnesses.

Paul continued: ‘I’m a timebomb — a human version of the Titanic, forever dodging icebergs. But I did once say to a mate of mine, “Let’s both sign up — but you go in first.”‘

The star admitted that he now has ‘mixed feelings’ about  Dignitas and it is ‘not a step’ he would take now.

In April, Paul said he had contracted coronavirus and had been treating it with a homemade vinegar concoction.

The radio presenter told Gaby Roslin, 55, that he combined cider vinegar, garlic, rosemary, lemongrass, parsley and a bay leaf after a similar potion was used to fend off the plague in the 1600s.

However, there is no evidence that this works and anyone with symptoms should seek medical advice.

Paul said: ‘I’m alright now. Last week I had flu like symptoms. I didn’t have the cough bad, I certainly didn’t have the temperature or anything like that so I just got on with it.

‘That was when the heating had gone so it was minus two down here and freezing and I thought someone had got it in for me. I’m fine now.’
