Maroon 5’s new song Nobody’s Love calls for an end to the war on marijuana

Maroon 5 released a new song and music video on Thursday night entitled Nobody’s War, which pulls no punches in asking for an end to the War on Marijuana.

While the lyrics of Nobody’s Love aren’t overtly tied to marijuana by any means, the minimalist music video shows Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine singing the tune outside at night, while smoking a joint.

The video concludes with a message from the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) at the end, bluntly calling for an end to the War on Marijuana.

The song itself appears, lyrically, to be an ode to a lover, with lyrics like, ‘You can make a grown man cry/If you ever said “Goodbye/Never let you go, oh, oh, oh I.’

Frontman Adam Levine sings in the chorus, ‘If my love ain’t your love/It’s never gonna be nobody’s love/Never gonna need nobody’s love but yours (But yours).’

While the song is clearly about love, in the music video, Levine is seen sitting in a back yard, and as the song progresses, he starts rolling up and smoking a joint.

The singer, clad in a black suit coat over a white tank top and black pants, spends the rest of the song singing while taking hits from his joint.

The video ends with Levine sitting in the yard, smoking his joint, as the faint sound of police sirens can be heard, when a message from the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) is shown.

‘It’s time to end the War on Marijuana. The aggressive enforcement of marijuana possession laws needlessly ensnares hundreds of thousands of people into the criminal justice system and wastes billions of taxpayers’ dollars,’ the statement begins.

‘What’s more, it is carried out with staggering racial bias. Despite being a priority for police departments nationwide, the War on Marijuana has failed to reduce marijuana use and availability and diverted resources that could be better invested in our communities,’ the statement concludes.

Levine also took to his Instagram to release a statement about the song’s message, just before it was launched.

‘The entire process of perfecting this song was done with the whole world in mind,’ Levine began.
