The Boys gets renewed for Season 3 on Amazon Prime before Season 2 debuts

While fans continue the grueling wait for the Season 2 premiere of The Boys on Amazon, the show has already been renewed for a third season.

Amazon announced during The Boys’ Comic-Con @ Home panel on Thursday that it had given the green light for Season 3, months before the September 4 premiere of Season 2.

The streaming service also announced that there will be a new after-show arriving with Season 2 entitled Prime Rewind: Inside The Boys, hosted by Aisha Tyler.

The Boys is based on the comic book series by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, which offers an irreverent take on superheroes, set in a world where they are as popular as celebrities, all owned by one company, Vought International.

The show follows a group of vigilantes, lead by Billy Butcher (Karl Urban) who try to keep the corrupt heroes under control

The show’s Season 3 renewal comes just over a year after the show was renewed for a second season, just a week before its debut.

‘Amazon, in a bold and historic push to expand their ‘weirdo’ demographic, has greenlit Season 3 of The Boys!’ The writers and I are hard at work in the (virtual) writer’s room and we’re sad to say, the world has given us way too much material. We hope to be shooting in early 2021, but that’s up to a microscopic virus,” said showrunner and executive producer Eric Kripke in a statement.

‘As if that wasn’t enough, we’re bringing you a Season 2 after show, Prime Rewind: Inside The Boys. Double entendre intended. Hosted by the incomparable Aisha Tyler and guest starring the cast and crew, it’s a deep dive into how we make this insane thing,’ he added.

‘Seriously, thanks to Sony, Amazon and the fans. We love making this show so much, and we’re thrilled we get to make more,’ Kripke concluded.

The series focuses on two primary groups, the heroes controlled by Vought known as the Seven and The Boys, with Season 2 bringing plenty of changes.

The new season, described as, ‘even more intense, more insane’ finds The Boys on the run from the law, hunted by the Supes, and desperately trying to regroup and fight back against Vought.

Characters such as Hughie (Jack Quaid), Mother’s Milk (Laz Alonso), Frenchie (Tomer Capon) and Kimiko (Karen Fukuhara) are in hiding, as they, ‘try to adjust to a new normal,’ with Butcher (Karl Urban) nowhere to be found.

Starlight (Erin Moriarty) must navigate her place in The Seven as Homelander (Antony Starr) sets his sights on taking complete control. His power is threatened with the addition of Stormfront (Aya Cash), a social media-savvy new Supe, who has an agenda of her own.

The season will also feature the Supervillain threat taking center stage and makes waves as Vought seeks to capitalize on the nation’s paranoia.

The Supes of The Seven also include Queen Maeve (Dominique McElligott), A-Train (Jessie T. Usher), The Deep (Chace Crawford) and Black Noir (Nathan Mitchell).
