EXCLUSIVE: Normal People’s Paul Mescal cracks open the champagne as triumphant star celebrates his Emmy nomination with friends

The champagne flowed on Tuesday evening as rising star Paul Mescal celebrated his Primetime Emmy Awards nomination with a group of friends.

The Irish actor been recognised for his portrayal of lovelorn student Connell Waldren in BBC Three’s hugely successful adaptation of Sally Rooney’s bestselling novel, Normal People.

Toasting his incredible rise from relative unknown to household name after being named in the category for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited Series or Movie, Mescal, 24, opened a bottle of bubbly as his friends cheered him on.

In a short video posted to Instagram by PR pal Samira Memedovski, the talented actor is seen uncorking the bottle before triumphantly placing it to his lips.

Captioning the clip, she wrote: ‘Cheers to this ones Emmy nomination. Congrats pal.’ 

Normal People has received a total of four nods at the 72nd Primetime Emmys, including Outstanding Writing For A Limited Series, Movie Or Dramatic Special and Outstanding Casting For A Limited Series, Movie Or Special.
