A cyclist was stabbed in Varkaus – police are asking the public for help in resolving the case

The cyclist was stabbed in Varkaus today. The police of Eastern Finland are requesting observations in connection with the case.

The young man, who was the victim of the attack, was cycling in the vicinity of the Varkaus water tower at about 11.30 am when a yellow car stopped. Two men got out of the car and stopped the cyclist and started threatening him, police say of the incident.

The situation eventually ended with one of the men stabbing the cyclist in the leg, police say.

After the situation, the perpetrators had gotten back into the car and left the scene. The victim, in turn, cycled to the Varkaus police station, where he was given first aid. He was then hospitalized.

Police said the injury to the cyclist was not life-threatening and the man was discharged from the hospital during the afternoon.

Police have arrested three men suspected of involvement in the events during the day. A cyclist suspected of a crime and a victim of a stabbing already knows each other. Police are investigating the matter as aggravated assault.

According to police, the knife used in the stabbing is still missing.
