A tough argument about Sergio Perez

Racing Point stable Mexican driver Sergio Perez was diagnosed with a coronavirus infection after he visited his home country under the British GP. Perez said he went to Mexico to see his sick mother. Ziggo Sport’s F1 expert Jack Plooij doesn’t believe Perez’s explanation.

In Plooij’s view, Perez’s trip to Mexico was related to his contract patterns for next season.

Sebastian Vettel, who is leaving Ferrari after this season, has been firmly connected to next year’s team, which will change its name to Aston Martin. Perez should make room for Vettel.

– He (Perez) said he visited Mexico to meet his mother, but I don’t think that was the whole truth. He had to raise money and discuss with Carlos Slim whether they want to go to Haas or Alfa Romeo, Plooij refers at Motorsport to one of Perez’s biggest financiers.

– If he really went to see his mother, so I’m completely wrong. But I find it hard to believe it. He’s under pressure and you’re taking risks then, Plooij continues.
