Last weekend, Turku Inter rose to the top of the men’s football league by knocking out IFK Mariehamn at home, but on Wednesday the parts changed and IFK Mariehamn took his opening victory of the season by knocking Turku away 2-0.

IFK Mariehamn’s head coach Lukas Syberyjski had missed his staff quite a bit. The most visible change was the drop of top man Gustaf Backaliden in defense in front of the toppers. This change also worked, as Inter, from its intermittent control, was barely able to create goals.

The home team, on the other hand, took their place and with Albion Adem’s lead and Peter Makrillos ’2-0 hit, the Mariehamn recorded not only a tasty revenge but also their first home win of the season.

– It was important to get the first home win and I’m really happy with the game. A big thank you belongs to the line of defense, where, above all, Gustaf Backaliden and Kalle Taimi took great responsibility, Syberyjski said.

Inter’s head coach Jose Riveiro, on the other hand, was disappointed with his own take.

– I’m disappointed. Not only for the result, but also for our performance. IFK played well and took our strengths away, Riveiro admitted.
