Hamlet is seen as a rock musical on the stage of the Tampere Workers’ Theater.

Shakespeare classic Hamlet will be seen for the first time in Finland as a rock musical when it premieres at Tampere Työväen Teatteri on September 3rd. The production has got two hard-class “rock godparents”, Ismo Alango and Maija Vilkkumaa, who play with two musical songs.

Now the first of them, sung by Ismo Alango, is out My crime stinks. The ensemble is performed by a group of skilled musicians called Hamlet and his Gravediggers: Varre Vartiainen (guitar), Jarmo Saari (guitar), Jani Auvinen (drums), Teemu Broman (bass), Joonas Mikkilä (keyboards) and Paavo Malmberg (percussion, keyboards programming). The song has been composed by Eeva Kontu and its lyrics are by Shakespeare, translated and arranged by Michael Baran and Eeva Kontu.

– Once in a lifetime you are asked to sing Shakespeare’s text, you can’t refuse it. Claudius ’account is a sheer rock n’ roll: grace is howled, even though the soul has already been sold to the devil. The band is also great, the Gravediggers guitars are credibly roaring in the mood of doomsday, Alanko says.

Jari Ahola is seen in the role of Claudius in the musical directed by Otso Kauto.

Maija Vilkkumaan’s song There is a great mind broken will be released on Friday 12.8.
