At least four people were killed when tropical storm Isaias raged off the U.S. east coast, authorities said Wednesday. The storm brought down rains and cut off electricity to about four million people.

Two people died in a caravan park in North Carolina. In addition to this, one person died in New York and one in Maryland while they were in cars over which a tree fell.

Heavy rains whipped Washington and Baltimore, but New York, where flood defenses had already been piled up in Manhattan to stop a possible storm surge, was spared the worst rains.

“Fortunately, the storm brought more wind than water,” said City Mayor Bill de Blasio in an interview with a local news channel.

After ravaging the east coast of the United States, the storm continued its weakened journey toward southern Canada.
