According to police, 17 people have already died in traffic in Eastern Uusimaa alone this year.

The police of Itä-Uusimaa say on Facebook that the beginning of the year was darker than usual in traffic. In Eastern Uusimaa alone, 17 people have already died in traffic this year.

Serious road safety hazards, such as severe speeding, have also increased during exceptional circumstances, according to police.

– One of the reasons is apparently that there has been room in the traffic for gassing, police say on Facebook.

Police now point out that the gas foot needs to be relaxed, especially when next week little schoolchildren leave for traffic.

– We monitor speeding and traffic behavior, especially in the vicinity of schools. We tackle low-speed speeding and talking on a cell phone while driving, police promise.

Police also remind parents of the importance of traffic education. It would be good to go through a school trip with the child on a couple of occasions. It would also be a good idea for the child to learn to observe other road users and try to make sure that the driver of the car is sure to notice him if the child is crossing the road. However, the strictest message goes to motorists.

– Now let your gas foot go!

The data published by Statistics Finland do not yet show a peak in traffic accidents for this year. In January-June, 101 people died in accidents, compared to 99 last year. In July-August, however, there have already been reports of several fatal road accidents.
