“No one knew about this yet”

Defensive hero who played in TPS in the season 2013-14 Shaone Morrisonn has given an interesting interview about his time Alexander Ovetshkin led by the Washington Capitals.

Morrisonn, 37, remembers his six years (2004-10) warmly at the Capitals. Especially young Ovetshkin’s first seasons in the NHL are very Vancouver-minded.

– He is one of the hardest workers I’ve ever seen. He loves energy drinks – he is full of energy. I never saw him take a nap after the exercises. He never rested. He only had such a huge amount of energy. He was able to go all night. He was a wild man. He was amazing. He was an incredible teammate, Morrisonn, who now plays in England, told his team in an interview with the Cardiff Devils.

One of Morrison’s best memories was the “miracle paint” made against Phoenix Coyotes during Ovetshkin’s coming season.

In that hit, Ovetshkin skated at high speed to Phoenix’s head, and the defender Paul Mara would push him back. Ovetshkin slid on his back from the left side of the goal and incomprehensibly turned the puck with one hand past the goalkeeper Brian Boucherin.

– It was the best goal of my career. I fell, but I still tried to score the goal, Ovetshkin had said to NHL.com after the match.

What makes the hit even more incredible is that, according to Morrison, Ovetsh was not “at his most refreshing” that day.

– I still remember that goal against Phoenix when he did it on his back. It’s fun, and no one knew this yet, so we had a newcomer party in Phoenix. They were a party for our newcomers. Of course, we played against Coyotes the next day, Morrisonn revealed.

Morrisonn sees Ovetshkin as an exceptional athlete.

– He is one of those athletes that is not often met. Perhaps Semin was more skilled than he was, but Ovetshkin was also a unique power striker and leader. He just took over the games. Not many guys can do that, Morrison, plus.
