There is a lukewarm explosion on the ground

Police continue to investigate the explosion in the Putan district of Tornio last Tuesday. Responsibility for the investigation has been transferred from the Lapland police to the KRP, which is now reporting the case.

The blast damaged a blue Volkswagen Transporter van that had been leased to the Border Guard. The explosion at about 00.50 on Tuesday night did not cause any injuries. The criminal offenses in the preliminary investigation are currently destruction and explosive crime.

Police are seeking clues from the public to investigate the case. So far, it is not known who placed the bomb under the car.

– Police are still requesting eyewitness observations around the scene from Tuesday night between midnight and one o’clock. In particular, we need more information about the three-man entourage that moved from Aarnintie to Thurevikinkatu, says KRP’s Director of Investigation, Criminal Commissioner Teemu Mäntyniemi in a press release.

– In addition, we are interested in the small red car that was driving on Aarnintie at the time of the incident and the moped that was driving on Aarnintie at the same time, Mäntyniemi continues.

The release hopes that the above-mentioned individuals will report to the police themselves.

Mäntyniemi tells MTV News that the police also hope that individuals living in the vicinity of the scene and owning surveillance cameras would provide the police with recordings of the night of the event.

– We are currently inspecting the material of nearby cameras. We also ask you to see the possible recordings of private individuals, if there is information about who has moved in the area, Mäntyniemi says.

Police complain that it takes time to find the perpetrators. For this reason, the lead responsibility for investigating the case has been transferred from the Lapland police to the KRP.

– We believe that this will become a long-term affair. The investigation work requires much more time than initially assumed.

Hints and other information about the case can be submitted to the Lapland Police e-mail rta.lappi (at) poliisi.fi or by phone to 0295 466 259. The police would like to thank you for the hints received so far.
