Basel and Wolverhampton advance to the European League semi-finals. Basel won Fabian Frein Eintracht Frankfurtin 1-0, and the match ended 4-0. Wolves also took a 1-0 win over the Olympics. Raúl Jimenezin the penalty finish was enough to take Wolves to a 2-1 overall result.
Wolves ‘winning goal was already scored in the ninth minute when Olympiakos’ goalkeeper Bobby Allain brought down Daniel Podencen illegally after losing the Ball Control itself just a moment earlier. Jimenez was allowed to take it quickly by the referee, much to the dismay of the goalkeeper who wasn’t prepared.
Olympiakos been thought to have been levels less than half an hour, when Mady Camara shot the ball through the defense of Wolves into the net, but the goal of the Greeks was dismissed after a video check as an offside.
In the Basel-Frankfurt match, both teams had more chances to score but both teams ’finishes were ineffective. Basel certainly left the match ahead of the goal by three goals, so the Swiss had no major goal pressure. The final moments of the match were more or less a game and waiting for the final whistle.
Frei struck a 30 meter free kick home 88 minutes into the match. Freilla opened up all the world space and time to go around the Frankfurt goalkeeper and place the ball in the empty goal.
Wolves will face in the next round earlier in the evening AS Roman overtook Seville. Basel, meanwhile, will measure the winner of the Wolfsburg-Shakhtar Donetsk duo in the quarterfinals.
