Only one to two percent of tourists coming to Finland via Helsinki-Vantaa Airport have participated in a voluntary corona test at the airport during the past week.

Timo Aronkytö, Deputy Mayor responsible for Vantaa’s social and health services, says that he has no information about any of the positive test results.

– I have no information that there were any positive ones. That doesn’t mean they couldn’t have been. It takes a day to get the result, Aronkytö says.

The test is taken by Huslab staff. The Helsinki-Vantaa test point is open 24 hours a day. Most of those tested are foreigners. The tests are specifically targeted at passengers coming from countries designated as quarantine countries by the National Institute for Health and Welfare (THL). There are about a thousand of these passengers every day, with about 5,000 passengers arriving via the airport every day.

The need for testing is assessed in the health information

According to Aronkydö, all passengers will be given THL’s general instructions.

– In addition, passengers from high-risk countries will receive a quarantine instruction, and all passengers will receive a corona instruction questionnaire, on the basis of which they will seek medical advice and thus testing.

Health information can be found in the vicinity of the airport arrival halls, where healthcare professionals work. The health information assesses the passenger’s need for testing and, if necessary, forwards the passenger to a test point, which operates on the second floor of the departure hall in the conference rooms.

Finavia’s general information points can also be found in the arrival halls, where general instructions on coronavirus and voluntary quarantine are distributed. The airport also has a mask recommendation.

– Finavia recommends masks, and it is mandatory to wear a mask on an aircraft. At the airport, masks have become more common over the past week. More than half of the passengers wear the mask, Aronkytö says.
