The Rose Ladies Series Gran Final, a women’s golf course in Wentworth, England, had to be suspended at a rapid pace on Friday afternoon. The cause this time was not in the coronavirus, but in a rapidly spreading wildfire that threatened the entire field.

The fire started near the field and the strong wind only gave more power to the flames, which spread quickly in the dry grass.

– We have been ordered to evacuate the area. The fire is heading towards the 12th hole here in Wentworth, Sky Sports News supplier Jamie Weir reports on site.

– When we played on the ninth fairway, we saw smoke on the horizon, but it seemed to come closer pretty quickly… It’s pretty scary when you suddenly see flames and also hear them, said the tournament player. Felicity Johnson.

Police and the fire brigade were quickly on site and there is also an extinguishing system at Wentworth Field, so the fire was brought under control quickly and at least no casualties have been reported. In the best case, the race can be resumed as early as Saturday morning.
