In the U.S., President Donald Trump has signed a presidential decree banning transactions with ByteDance, the company that owns the Tiktok app, after 45 days.

According to CNN, the regulation means in practice that Tiktok will be banned from operating in the United States unless deals are concluded before the deadline.

Trump has previously threatened to ban the use of Tiktok in the United States due to privacy concerns unless its U.S. operations are sold to a U.S. company.

Software company Microsoft has negotiated the acquisition of some of Tiktok’s features. The company has said it is considering acquiring Tiktok’s operations in the United States, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.

On Thursday, the financial newspaper Financial Times reported that Microsoft would be interested in buying Tiktok in its entirety. According to the magazine, Microsoft has changed its plans because it would be difficult to split the application into more than one company.

Microsoft has not wanted to comment on the magazine’s information.

On Thursday, Trump also signed a decree on the use of the Chinese-owned instant messaging app Wechat, according to the Washington Post, among others. According to the magazine, the settings prevent apps from being found in Apple and Google app stores.
