The celebrities who are BANNED from The Masked Singer: Jackie ‘O’ Henderson reveals why producers were forced to reject major stars

Producers of The Masked Singer Australia were forced to turn away dozens of celebrities this year… because they couldn’t sing.

After the first season was a ratings hit for Channel 10, stars were lining up to join the cast – but many were rejected because their vocal talents weren’t up to scratch.

Jackie ‘O’ Henderson, who is one of the judges on the zany reality show, revealed on Thursday that casting producers had a ‘blacklist’ of applicants who were rejected for being tone-deaf.

She was asked about the casting process on the 3pm Pick-Up, and admitted that while she didn’t know the details, she understood that singing ability was a priority.

‘I think what they do is they cast the net far… they cast the net to everyone, and they just see what comes back,’ she began.

Jackie explained that producers want performers with a ‘good celebrity profile’ but  ‘if they can’t really sing, they’re not going to be able to do it’.

She added: ‘They do want it to be entertaining and enjoyable, but [the contestants] need to have some sort of voice.’

Because Channel 10 wanted the performances to be of a high standard, major stars were apparently told they couldn’t participate.

Fortunately, this wasn’t a problem because so many celebrities expressed interest and producers were ‘spoilt for choice’.

Jackie said: ‘They had a lot of people who they couldn’t get last year because it was an unknown show. There are people doing it this year that I never would’ve thought would do it, and it’s just because they love the show and want to do something fun.’

Tennis star Mark Philippoussis and retired cricketer Michael Bevan were unmasked on The Masked Singer this week. Ten performers are left in the competition.

It comes after Daily Mail Australia exclusively revealed that Jackie, 45, had secured a seven-figure, multi-year deal with Channel 10 to be a judge on The Masked Singer.

The radio presenter is earning about $1million, a well-placed source tells Daily Mail Australia, having locked in her salary before the coronavirus recession hit.

She is believed to be getting more than fellow judges Dannii Minogue, Dave ‘Hughesy’ Hughes and Urzila Carlson.

The mother of one is understood to be earning about the same that Lindsay Lohan received to be a judge on the first season last year.

Jackie’s higher salary reflects the fact that The Masked Singer is being promoted daily on her top-rating KIIS FM breakfast show.
