Jesinta Franklin feared a ‘breakdown’ in AFL QLD hub

Jesinta Franklin (née Campbell) feared having a ‘breakdown’ had she joined the AFL WAG hub in Queensland.

The 29-year-old, who is married to Sydney Swans star Lance ‘Buddy’ Franklin, revealed why she has remained in Sydney in an Instagram Q&A session on Saturday.

This week, the AFL announced that the Sydney Swans will temporarily relocate to Cairns, over fears of the spread of COVID-19 in New South Wales and Victoria.

When asked by an Instagram fan why she did not go to the hub, Jesinta explained how she felt guilty letting a client down when she has a new project launching soon.

‘Firstly, I am still working and have a special project launching soon with a brand that I have already committed to, so giving eight weeks worth of work, plus letting my client down, didn’t sit comfortably with me,’ she said.

The former Miss Universe Australia, who shares five-month-old daughter Tullulah with husband Lance, said the conditions at the hub are far from a holiday.

‘You have to live in a hotel room and you can’t leave the hotel unless it is for absolute essential reasons, for example, seeing a doctor,’ she wrote.

Jesinta went on to explain how eating prepared meals at set times with everyone else ‘like a school camp’, would not be fair on the couple or their daughter.

‘For both mine and my husband’s mental health, living in a small hotel room with a baby was just not something we thought was fair on either of us, or our daughter.’

The model also revealed her fears of having a breakdown, should she enter the hub after already spending five months in lockdown, with the AFL’s strict protocols.

‘We have already spent five months in lockdown without being able to see family or friends due to AFL protocols, so going into a complete lockdown would have probably led to a breakdown for me,’ she candidly admitted.

While she explained how the hub is not in the best interests of her family, she said it is ‘100 per cent necessary’, and praised the AFL for going ‘above and beyond’.

‘The hub is 100 per cent necessary for the game and everyone to be kept safe and healthy, and we are very grateful that the season was still able to go ahead despite what is going on in the world,’ she said.

‘So many people have lost so much, so to still be able to work is a true blessing.’
