‘I was in terrible pain’: The Block host Scott Cam, 57, reveals the terrifying moment he was rushed to hospital in an ambulance and forced to have emergency surgery

The Block host Scott Cam has revealed he was rushed to hospital in an ambulance approximately three weeks ago.

The 57-year-old tradesman and TV star appeared on Nova’s Fitzy and Wippa on Thursday, and said he was taken to St Vincent’s Hospital Sydney after suffering ‘terrible pain’ in his neck and arm.

Scotty revealed that his neck ‘gave way’ and that he suffered a ‘disc blowout’ and ‘squashed nerves’ as a result, and had to go into surgery for the issue.

‘It was a wear and tear issue that I had, I haven’t really told anybody about this,’ Scotty began.

‘My neck just gave way a bit from 40 years of toil and it’s a bit of a message out there for young blokes that are working hard. I know how hard apprentices and young tradesmen work. You’ve got to really look after yourself throughout your younger years,’ he said.

Scotty went on to reveal the extent of his injury and described the pain as a 12 out of 10.

‘Because you get to my age and all of a sudden my neck was getting squashed and my vertebrae, the disc blowout and it squashed all the nerves and that came down my arms. It was terrible pain, terrible, terrible!’

He added: ‘I’ve got a fairly high pain threshold, I’ve got about 100 stitches in my body. I know a bit of pain, this was like a 12.’

Scotty said he felt pain down his right arm and told his wife Ann to call an ambulance, as he thought he was going to ‘pass out’ as his ‘arm was on fire.’

‘I said to my wife, ”you’re going to have to call an ambulance because I’m going to pass out here.” It’s like my arm was on fire. I couldn’t get rid of it.’

He added: ‘Anyway they pumped me full of morphine which didn’t do a lot and all the sudden I’m in Vinnies, on the operating table and they did a three or four hour operation on my neck.’

Scotty said he was in hospital for five days and thanked his doctor for looking after him.

He said he’s now on the mend, but can’t lift anything more than 1kg for six weeks.
