Kirsten Dunst and Gabrielle Union share ideas for a Bring It On reboot on film’s 20th anniversary

In honor of the film’s 20th anniversary, Gabrielle Union and Kirsten Dunst discussed some ideas for a potential Bring It On sequel.

After two decades, the 47-year-old actress and Golden Globe nominee, 38, reunited for a 43-minute Zoom call with film’s director Peyton Reed and writer Jessica Bendinger.

As they reflected on their cult-favorite cheer comedy, Union raved about the long-lasting and ‘awesome’ impact ‘this movie had and continues to have.’

While the 10 Things I Hate About You star suggested they could be ‘co-heads of the PTA’ one day in a future spin-off, Dunst had another brilliant idea.

‘Or we run a cheer school like Cheer,’ she interjected, referencing Netflix’s popular  documentary about Navarro College’s champion-winning cheerleading team. ‘Who knows.’

Union then asked if they would be able to select which athletes and ‘would-be Jerrys of the world’ would compete, like the elite squad’s head cheer coach, Monica Aldama.

‘Yeah!’ Dunst exclaimed. ‘I feel like it’d be fun.’

In original film, Union played the head cheerleader of the Clovers, the sports team of an inner-city school pitted against the posh Toros, led by Dunst.

The film also starred Eliza Dushku, Jesse Bradford and Natina Reed.

Though there have been a number of Bring it On reboots, including Bring It On Again in 2004, Bring It On: All or Nothing later in 2006, 2007’s Bring It On: In It to Win It, and Bring It On: Fight to the Finish, none have included Dunst or Union.

The pair seemed eager for an on-screen reunion, as they discussed the cultural impact of the film and how they landed their iconic roles.

‘I can’t imagine dreaming up better people,’ the film’s writer gushed of the director and two leading actresses.

Paying particular attention to detail, Union also dressed up her daughter Kaavia up in exact the same duds, hair bow included — the only difference was that the little one’s costume had the food brand Runza’s logo on her shirt instead of Union’s character’s fictional team.

In an obvious nod to Bring It On, Union captioned one of the posts showing their twinning costumes with the phrase, ‘Brought It.’ She also added the hashtag #CaliforniaLove.
