Amir Khan and wife Faryal Makhdoom posed on the roof of their £5million wedding hall in Bolton on Friday, as the boxer revealed the project had been delayed.

The sports star, 33, looked delighted as he asked for fans’ opinions on what to build on the land surrounding the 60,000sqft facility in his hometown, which he plans to transform into Britain’s first ‘one stop wedding mall.’ 

It will contain 18 wedding retail units, three wedding halls for receptions, a number of restaurants and a rooftop shisha bar, a spokesman for Khan said in November 2019.

Amir wrote: ‘Me and @faryalmakhdoom on the rooftop lounge balcony of our wedding hall in bolton. 

‘We planning what we should build on the back. We have 4 acres of land. Send me your ideas?….

The Olympic silver medallist also revealed the planned completion date for the facility this month had been pushed back due to ‘unprofessional management’ – and would now open in seven months.

He continued: ‘I know it’s taken a little longer than it should have to finish, due to unprofessional management, it was out of my hands then.

‘But now I’m fully involved I’ve given it to a new team, 7 months to finish all the interior and being furnished so we can all use this amazing building.

Mailonline has contacted Amir Khan’s representatives for comment.

Amir revealed his plan for a wedding hall in the building – which has been empty since going up in 2015- in November 2019.    

The star’s spokesman said at the time: ‘Amir is finishing off the wedding hall and we are hoping to have it all complete by August 2020.’

The venue, including a 200 vehicle car park, is expected to create 200 jobs.

Khan is also planning to develop an area of wasteland at the rear of the 3.5 acre site into housing- which he showed off in the photo.

He posted a picture with Bolton Council planning chief Paul Whittingham following a ‘fantastic’ meeting between the pair.

Khan’s spokesman added: ‘Amir will see the job through and is overwhelmed by the support of all the local community.’

He suffered a setback in March 2019 when a blaze, which is thought to have been started deliberately, engulfed building materials.

This comes as it was announced that Amir and wife Faryal have  landed their very own TV show.

The couple will open their doors for a new access all areas BBC Three documentary which will give fans an insight into their life in Bolton, Manchester.

Meet The Khans: Big In Bolton will see the couple, who tied the knot in 2013, juggle their careers and relationship with raising their three young children Lamaisah, six, Alayna, two, and six-month-old Muhammad Zaviyar.  

The new eight-part series, announced at a session for Edinburgh TV Festival this week, will air on BBC Three next spring.

BBC Three controller Fiona Campbell said of the show: ‘It’s about family and struggles and relationships.

‘It epitomises what BBC Three wants to be. It’s going to be really cool.’ 

The former light-welterweight world champion is no stranger to TV, having appeared on several reality and game shows including I’m A Celebrity, Countdown, Beat The Star and Celebrity Juice.

 Amir and Faryal, who briefly split in 2017, married in a lavish ceremony at the Waldorf Astoria hotel New York in 2013 attended by 1000 guests.
