Two men fleeing a police car have died after their car smashed into two other vehicles leaving a man and two women seriously injured. 

Officers patrolling Salford last night started chasing a speeding car on Frederick Road at around 11.40pm.

During the chase the car collided with two other vehicles.

Greater Manchester Police has confirmed two men from the pursued vehicle were pronounced dead a short time later.

One man and two women from one of the other vehicles suffered serious injuries and were rushed to a nearby hospital. 

Pictures from the scene show a silver car with its doors removed, partially covered by a plastic sheet.

The crash happened near a railway bridge on Frederick Road last night, with locals reporting a police helicopter was heard overhead. 

According to The Sun, one local said on Facebook: ‘I heard the car shoot past my house and it was going at a ridiculous speed.’ 

No arrests have been made, police have referred the incident to the IOPC and Greater Manchester Police's Professional Standards Branch

Debris still littered the road, which is near student accommodation and a recycling centre, earlier this morning. 

GMP have released no details about either of the men who died.

No arrests have been made.

The incident has been referred to GMP’s Professional Standards Branch ‘in line with normal procedure’, along with the IOPC, GMP said.
