Carly Pearce says divorce from Michael Ray has changed ‘every aspect’ of her life

She’s the most nominated artist at the upcoming 2020 Country Music Association Awards.

And Carly Pearce is also going through a painful divorce from Michael Ray from whom she split in June after just eight months of marriage.

The country music singer, 30, told ET Canada that she’s not comfortable talking too much about her breakup, explaining: ‘Things happen, and I think it’s just something that has to stay between the two of us.’

She added: ‘Hopefully, people respect us to understand that we are humans and I certainly didn’t get married to get divorced.’

Pearce and fellow singer Ray, 32, married in Nashville, Tennessee, on October 6, 2019 and filed for divorce in June.

She shared that the experience has forced her to consider her imperfections and to face up to dealing with something that changes ‘every aspect of your life’.

‘I’m way stronger than I thought,’ she said.

Also in June, Pearce celebrated her first number one hit, with the track I Hope You’re Happy Now.

The song received three Country Music Association Awards nominations, for Song of the Year, Musical Event of the Year Pending and Video of the Year.

She is also nominated for New Artist of the Year. 

‘I feel like I’m living out this Cinderella story,’ she told ET Canada.

‘I also am so grateful that it didn’t happen for me overnight because I think it makes these moments way more special for me,’ she said.
