Great British Bake Off viewers were left in tears on Tuesday night after contestant Linda dedicated her Showstopper cake to her late daughter.

Calling her a ‘sweet little English rose’, Linda, 61, emotionally shared that Melissa had tragically passed away at 18-years-old.

Revealing the white chocolate celebration cake was a tribute to her late daughter, the contestant said that it ‘really meant a lot’ to her.

Linda shared: ‘This really means a lot to me this cake, it’s a tribute to my daughter actually.

‘Melissa had special needs, she’s no longer with us, she passed away when she was 18. This is just a celebration of her life really.’

Linda emotionally added: ‘She was just a sweet little English rose.’

The contestant made a white chocolate three-tier sponge cake with amaretto, raspberry jam and mascarpone cream. It was decorated with a pink chocolate rose in tribute to her late daughter Melissa.

Fans were left in tears over Linda’s poignant bake and shared their support to the contestant after her heartbreaking revelation.

One person said: ‘I just started to well up hearing Linda talk about her daughter. What a lovely tribute Rose #GBBO.’

On this week’s the Great British Bake Off the theme was chocolate where the contestants had to start off by creating 12 brownies. 

Next up was the Technical challenge, which required the bakers to create a Chocolate Babka.

The final task was the Showstopper round where the contestants had to bake a white chocolate celebration cake. 

Viewers were left ‘gutted’ after Sura was eliminated after her ‘raw’ Showstopper failed to impress judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith. 

Yet despite being upset over her exit, fans were left happy that Mark was crowned Star Baker. 

The Great British Bake Off continues next Tuesday at 8pm on Channel 4.
