Paul Mescal makes the most of his surroundings as he enjoys a day out in Greece while shooting new film The Lost Daughter

Filming commitments were put to one side on Thursday as Paul Mescal enjoyed a day out in Greece.

The Irish actor, 24, is currently filming The Lost Daughter with Oscar-winner Olivia Colman and Hollywood star Maggie Gyllenhall on the Greek island of Spetses.

But he took advantage of a welcome break in the shooting schedule by venturing out for a stroll through the affluent municipality.

Sporting a black hooded to and matching shorts, rising star Paul caught the eye while soaking up his picturesque surroundings.

The actor added to his casual look with a pair of simple white trainers, while heavily tinted Wayfarer sunglasses rounded things off.

With his muscular legs on display, Paul – who originally wanted to be a Gaelic footballer before an injury curtailed his career – was seen returning to his hotel later that day.

The actor’s career has gone from strength to strength following his portrayal of lovelorn student Connell Waldren in BBC Three’s Normal People, an adaptation of the bestselling novel by Sally Rooney.

A relative unknown at the turn of the year, he has since featured in Channel 5 drama The Deceived and the promotional video for recent Rolling Stones single Scarlet.

His understated work on Normal People alongside co-star Daisy Edgar-Jones also won him a surprise nomination for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited Series or Movie at the 2020 Primetime Emmy Awards.

The Lost Daughter – an adaptation of the 2006 novel by Italian author Elena Ferrante – will be his first feature film.

It will also be co-star Maggie Gyllenhaal’s directorial debut, with Peter Sarsgaard and Oliver Jackson-Cohen – currently terrifying viewers in Netflix drama The Haunting Of Bly Manor – also set to star.

Paul confirmed his role on Twitter in August, telling fans: ‘I’m a very excited boy!’

The film is scheduled for release in 2021.
