It was a week where several Premier League players went off on international duty with their respective countries, before returning to club action over the weekend.

It was announced on Sunday that Crystal Palace striker Jordan Ayew tested positive for Covid-19 after returning from international duty with Ghana, but the 29-year-old revealed he was asymptomatic.

The forward did not take part in the Eagles’ 1-1 draw with south of England rivals Brighton on Sunday afternoon.

Burnley full-back Phil Bardsley, who missed the Clarets’ goalless draw with West Brom on Monday, is also known to be among the eight.

Also this week, some parts of the country were moved up a tier in the UK Government’s hierarchy for coronavirus restrictions.

Areas in the north west such as Liverpool, Lancashire, Lancaster and Burnley were moved into the first tier, which means the highest level of restrictions are active in these areas.

Other areas, such as London, Manchester, Birmingham and Newcastle, were moved into tier 2, which does not allow the mixing of separate households indoors.
