EXCLUSIVE: EastEnders reveal two members have tested positive for Covid on set… but confirm production hasn’t been impacted

EastEnders has confirmed there have been two positive cases of coronavirus on set at Elstree Studios.

A spokesperson for the BBC revealed the members of staff are currently self-isolating at home, and production will not be impacted.

They told MailOnline: ‘We can confirm that two members of the EastEnders team have tested positive for coronavirus and they are now self-isolating at home following the latest government guidelines.

‘We have rigorous protocols in place to manage Covid-19 as the safety of all those involved in the production is paramount.’

It is currently unclear whether it was a cast or crew member who tested positive for the virus.

Cast and crew of the BBC One soap have been regularly tested for the virus since filming resumed on June 29.

Builders have been keeping busy to complete the soap’s new £87 million set, with work being finished on the redesigned Queen Vic pub along with a slew of other businesses earlier this week.

Production on the premises has been ongoing during the COVID-19 pandemic, and despite being a step closer to completion, work is still not expected to be done until 2023.

Last month, Coronation Street bosses were forced to reschedule production after a member of the cast tested positive for Covid-19 after being on set.

The long-running series had to briefly shut down certain areas of the set for a deep clean, after the coronavirus positive actor had filmed scenes.

It has been reported that although certain areas were closed down it did not affect filming due to the soap’s two-metre distancing rules.

A spokeswoman for the ITV soap said: ‘We can confirm a member of the Coronation Street team has tested positive for coronavirus. The protocols we have in place for such an eventuality have been implemented and the individual is now self isolating at home.

‘Although we do not believe anyone has been within 2m of the individual, as a precaution, the production team who were working with the individual have been notified.

‘In keeping with health and safety guidance, we have also undertaken an intensive clean of touch points in the cohort area where the individual was working and areas of the building they visited.

The representative for the ITV hit show also confirmed filmed continued after the situation was contained following an extensive clean in the targeted area.

It has been stated that the programme is assured that no longer member of the crew or cast came into close contact with the actor.
