Jamie Laing looks low-key as he steps out the morning after Strictly debut

Low-key Jamie Laing heads on a grocery run following his Strictly debut… after announcing plans to ‘step back’ from Made In Chelsea to avoid seeming ‘desperate’

Jamie Laing stepped out on Sunday morning in sweats to pick up some supplies, following his Strictly Come Dancing debut.

The 31-year-old was joined by his girlfriend Sophie Habboo, 27, who also donned comfy leisurewear for the outing, strolling along behind Jamie in autumnal London

The appearance comes after Jamie and his Strictly pro partner Karen Hauer took to the dance floor on Saturday as the 2020 series kicked off their live shows – with Jamie admitting this weekend that he’ll be ‘stepping back’ from Made In Chelsea.

Jamie kept things low-key in his grey sweats with a baseball cap and a face mask.

Using the opportunity for a little marketing, the black mask featured the name of Jamie’s sweets brand, Candy Kittens, emblazoned across the front of it.

Habbs followed suit in a similar get-up with a black winter jacket bundled around her for extra warmth.

Jamie and Habbs both found fame on Made In Chelsea – with Jamie joining the cast in 2011 during its second season. Habbs did not appear until 2018.

Jamie has said that he could ‘never’ completely give up the show, but has made a conscious effort to step back and take on other projects.

He said: ‘I’m incredibly loyal towards [the production company] Monkey Kingdom and Channel 4 – a lot of people talk badly about reality shows and say they were shown in a bad light.

‘Well, I was shown in a bad light, I was shown in a good light, I went on the most amazing holidays, I got paid to hang out with my friends and I was on TV for ten years.

‘I’d never say, ‘Hey, that’s me done,’ but yes, I’m definitely taking a step back.’

Jamie believes he got ‘lucky’ when he landed a spot on the TV series, and admits that for the first few years of his life in the spotlight, he ‘didn’t think’ about the ‘consequences of his actions’.

He added: ‘I joined a TV show, then I became lucky. I did Made In Chelsea for so long, and at the beginning we thought we were famous. We were nothing!

‘But we had this experience of dating lots of people and we didn’t really think about the consequences of our behaviour. I think I behaved slightly badly for a few years and I lost empathy towards friends, so I worry about that.’

Speaking to The Sunday Times newspaper’s Style magazine, he said: ‘There are lots of exciting things coming up. And I don’t think I can be 40 years old and still doing a reality show with kids who are 20, do you know what I mean? It’s a bit of a desperate look.’
