Jennifer Garner and Mark Ruffalo will reunite in The Adam Project for Netflix

The cast of Ryan Reynolds’ new Netflix film The Adam Project continues to fill out, with a 13 Going on 30 reunion happening between Jennifer Garner and Mark Ruffalo.

Garner, 48, had signed on last week to play Reynolds’ mother in the time travel adventure, though now Ruffalo, 53, has come aboard as the father, according to The Hollywood Reporter

Catherine Keener has also joined the burgeoning cast, alongside Walker Scobell and Alex Mallari Jr. in the Netflix project, directed by Shawn Levy (Free Guy).

The story centers on Reynolds, who must travel back in time to get help from his 13-year-old self to solve a mystery.

Together they try to find their late father (Ruffalo), who is now the same age as Reynolds’ character to ‘save the future.’

The father is described as a ‘brilliant physicist,’ while Keener is playing the villain, described as a woman who has, ‘stolen powerful technology from the physicist.’

Scobell will be making his professional acting debut in the film, portraying the younger version of Reynolds’ character.

Mallari plays the villain’s right hand, with the previously-cast Zoe Saldana playing the wife of Reynolds’ character. 

Production is currently under way in Reynolds’ hometown of Vancouver, with the actor reuniting with his Free Guy director Shawn Levy.

Levy is directing from a script by Jonathan Tropper (Banshee), based on an earlier screenplay by T.S. Nowlin (The Maze Runner).

Levy is also producing through his 21 Laps company, alongside Reynolds’ Maximum Effort and David Ellison’s Skydance.

The project is the first movie to be produced under Reynolds new The Group Project initiative, aimed at giving people of color a chance to work on his movies.

Reynolds and Levy’s new film Free Guy was originally slated for release in July, before it was pushed to December 11, though earlier this month it was pushed into 2021.  

Ruffalo was most recently seen in the HBO mini-series I Know This Much Is True, which earned him an Emmy Award.

Garner will next be seen in Yes Day with Edgar Ramirez, who play parents who must say yes to everything their children ask for one day.
