He recently stepped in as a guest judge after Motsi Mabuse was forced to self-isolate for two weeks following an emergency trip to Germany.

And Strictly Come Dancing‘s Anton Du Beke revealed that his wife Hannah Summers, 45, burst into tears after he got the call to fill in on the judging panel, joking she wanted him ‘out of the house’.

Speaking during an appearance on Wednesday’s Loose Women, the professional dancer, 54, opened up on his judging experience after 16 years on the BBC show.

Discussing how it felt to be asked to be a guest judge, he explained: ‘Well we were at home and I got the call Motsi has to go to Germany and can’t come back and would you mind judging for a few weeks.

‘I of course said yes before they finished the sentence. Am I back in? Yeah I’ll do it!’

Sharing his wife’s emotional reaction, he added: ‘Hannah bless her burst into tears. It was so lovely.

‘I think she was delighted to get me out the house!’

Anton, who shares three-year-old twins George and Henrietta with his wife, also discussed what it was judging his fellow dancers for the first time.

He explained: ‘I loved it, I really enjoyed it because you’re guaranteed to get through to next week which is one thing I loved.

‘The other thing is it was nice to talk about it and knowing what they’ve been through to get to that point. I know as a professional how it feels to get to that point… I thought they were tremendous as well.

‘I picked great weeks to judge because everyone did really, really well.’

The ballroom dancer also gave his verdict on notoriously strict judge Craig Revel Horwood, 55, being a lot nice on the celebrities this year.

He said: ‘I didn’t understand it, I didn’t recognise him I had to look across to make sure it was the right person.

‘He gave more marks in one of those weeks of couples dances than he’d given me in three years combined… he gave a 9, I’m sure he meant it as a 6 but it was upside down.’

Anton, alongside celebrity partner Jacqui Smith, were the first couple to be eliminated from the series.

Meanwhile, judge Craig jokingly compared Anton to Donald Trump after his long-awaited debut on the judging panel.

The outspoken judge claimed the pro would be ‘difficult to remove’ from his new job after he filled in for Motsi Mabuse.

Speaking on Thursday’s Lorraine, Craig said he was thrilled to see Anton finally join the Strictly judging panel after years of lobbying by fans.

He said: ‘It was like a three year-old coming in, sitting in his podium. He was loving himself sick, it was fantastic to see him sitting on the podium.

‘I was absolutely delighted darling that finally he got the chance. Now I think he is going to be a little bit like Trump – difficult to remove.’

Of course Craig’s tongue-in-cheek reference came as President of the United States Donald Trump refused to concede his loss in the US election to Joe Biden for several days, only recently admitting defeat after repeatedly claiming he’d won.

Happy for him: 'It was like a three year-old coming in, sitting in his podium. He was loving himself sick, it was fantastic to see him sitting on the podium'
