Experts have revealed you can prevent your Christmas tree from wilting by watering it with 7up.

With the current lockdown dampening spirits across the nation, people have been putting up their Christmas trees earlier than ever in a bid to spread some festive cheer.

And professionals at HanleysGarden Centre and Christmas Shop in Cork, Ireland, have told how you can keep your tree looking as good as new over the month of December – by watering it with the popular line and lemon flavoured fizzy drink, RSVPLive have reported.

While it may seem a bizarre hack to the majority, they went on to explain the method behind the madness – adding that the sugar in the 7up helps to feed the tree, keeping it fresher and living longer.

However, that’s not all – they additionally highlighted the importance of keeping an eye on your tree’s water level every day and to ensure there’s always two inches at the base.

They added you’d be surprised to learn how much water your tree absorbs in just 24 hours.

The experts also advised not pouring in a whole can – clarifying that the perfect formula to keep the tree hydrated is three parts water and one part 7up.

It comes after the news that Britain’s most popular Christmas tree could be in short supply after imports from Denmark were halted by Covid-19 restrictions.

The UK normally imports more than one million Nordmann Fir trees each year from what is Europe’s largest festive tree producer.

However, exports to the UK and other countries have been severely hit by restrictions linked to a cull of mink, which became a reservoir for a mutant form of coronavirus.

Garden centres say that, historically, many stores and supermarkets rely on Danish trees for their festive stock.

Some 10million trees are sold in Britain every year, around 3million of them imported.
